Acrylic CNC Cutting Design Guide
Acrylic is a popular CNC material for signage, display cases, retail fixtures, protective panels, lighting features, templates, and decorative parts. It is durable, clean-looking, and available in clear, frosted, colored, mirrored, and specialty finishes.
Cast vs extruded acrylic
Cast acrylic is often preferred for higher-quality edges, engraving, and polished finishes. Extruded acrylic can be more economical for simple parts but may react differently to heat and machining.
Design tips
Avoid placing holes too close to edges, specify inside corner radii, choose thickness based on span and load, and include protective film instructions if the surface finish is critical.
Edge quality
CNC routing can produce clean edges, but flame polishing, diamond polishing, or sanding may be needed for a premium display finish. Tell your fabricator how visible each edge will be.
Applications
Common acrylic CNC projects include retail signs, product displays, menu boards, sneeze guards, templates, branded plaques, light diffusers, and decorative wall panels.
File preparation
Send vector files with closed paths, final dimensions, material color, thickness, quantity, and edge finish requirements. For multi-part displays, include assembly notes and hardware locations.
Best practice
Prototype complex acrylic assemblies before ordering large quantities. This confirms fit, thickness, fastener placement, and final appearance before production.
